Saturday in Anping

Saturday found me in the western section of Tainan City called Anping. Rochelle, Karen and I explored Fort Zeelandia which was built by the Dutch in the 1600s. In 1661, Koxinga drove the Dutch out of Tainan. The Japanese reconstructed the present-day fort when they occupied Taiwan. You can see Dutch-era cannons, an old section of the original wall which is cemented with oyster shells' sticky rice and sugar cane syrup, a tree that was planted in a pot years ago and has outgrown it, a statue of Koxinga, an excavation site with a well that is rumored to have a tunnel to Chikhan Towers, and a wall that notes the age because roots have grown into it.

Temple gate.

A park that runs along the Tainan City canal which reaches the sea. Many statues adorn the park.

A little about the statues: the one of the woman is the godess matsu. The dogs are for this year (the year of the dog) and the rooster is from last year. Yay for roosters! :)

It's a Anping harbour is a really beautiful place at night.
