Temples honoring Matsu

The islands making up Penghu rely heavily on fishing. Thus, sailors and fishermen/fisherwomen pray to the godess Matsu for a safe voyage. The large, red oven in the first picture is where the locals burn paper money to help their ancestors purchase what they need in the next world. Below, the beautiful mural depicts a sea serpent.
